Abstract

From 1985 to 1994, Luuc Bauer published 31 new amphibian nomina for taxa at various ranks, including 14 genera. The nomenclatural status of these nomina regarding their availability and validity is evaluated here: 15 of them are considered available, including four or five valid ones according to the classification chosen (one for a species and three or four for genera) and two more which could possibly become valid if in the future some phylogenetic uncertainties are resolved. Attention is called to the fact that the current Rules of the Code regarding the technique used to produce a paper-printed publication are unclear and sometimes inapplicable, when this technique cannot be unambiguously determined by looking at the printed document. It is here suggested that the Code should be modified in order to accept all documents printed on paper in several simultaneously produced identical copies, clearly issued for the purpose of providing a public and permanent scientific record, as potentially available (if the other criteria of availability are complied with), whatever the technique used for their production.
