Geastrum trichiferum nomenclature Fungi

Abstract

Geastrum Persoon (1794): Persoon (1801) is a genus of gasteroid fungi with ca. 100–120 species widely distributed (Zamora et al. 2014). A considerable number of the about 300 names published under Geastrum (Robert et al. 2005) are poorly known, and several names have important nomenclatural problems. One of them is Geastrum trichiferum, a name that firstly appeared in Lloyd (1907: 314) as Geaster trichifer and of which the nomenclature has been variously interpreted in the literature.
