Abstract

The East Asian Dove Snail Mitrella bicincta (Gould, 1860) is recorded in Australia for the first time. It was probably introduced into New South Wales in the early 1960's and is now naturalised (i.e., permanently established) in central and southern New South Wales. It is now the dominant columbellid in the intertidal and shallow subtidal zones in central New South Wales. M. bicincta has gone unrecognised until now because of the lack of any revisionary work on the endemic temperate water Australian columbellid fauna.

Key words: Introduced marine species, naturalisation, non-indigenous, marine pest
