It represents a new, rare example of a tropical member of the genus Pecten. The new species most closely resembles P. excavatus Anton, 1838, previously reported from southern Japan to Indonesia, differing in its smaller size, greater length (antero-posterior dimension), more numerous, lower radial costae and slightly paler colouration.
