Dr Larry Page was the 2001 recipient of Gibbs
Award from the American Society of Ichthyologists and
Herpetologists for Outstanding Research in Systematic
Ichthyology. He is Curator of Fishes at the Florida Museum
of Natural History and Principal Scientist Emeritus,
Illinois Natural History Survey. His research emphasizes
the discovery and description of diversity in freshwater
fishes. He is the author of the Peterson Field Guide to
Freshwater Fishes of North America, and is the Principal
Investigator on a Planetary Biodiversity Inventory (PBI)
of freshwater fishes, funded by the U.S. National Science
Foundation. Phase I of the PBI was the All
Catfish (Siluriformes) Species Inventory (2003-2009),
and Phase II is the All Cypriniformes (minnows, loaches
and suckers) Species Inventory (2010-2014). All Catfishes
resulted in the description of almost 1,000 new species,
many of which appeared in Zootaxa.
