Abstract

Herein we report on preliminary data for the Trichoptera assemblage for Quebrada Pavón, a medium elevational stream (440 m a.s.l.). This stream was one of 27 locations in the Rio Chiriqui watershed sampled during 2023 as part of a larger project. A total of 77 species were identified distributed among 13 caddisfly families. In addition, from this stream we describe and illustrate one new species of microcaddisfly, Cerasmatrichia pavonensis Harris sp. nov. (Hydroptilidae) and present six new country records for Panama (Glossosomatidae: Mortoniella pacuara (Flint); Hydroptilidae: Costatrichia flinti Holzenthal & Harris, Costatrichia lodora Mosely, Ochrotrichia palitla Flint; Leptoceridae: Oecetis punctata (Navás); and, Xiphocentronidae: Xiphocentron tarquon Schmid). With these additions, there are now 551 species of caddisflies known from Panama, distributed among 15 families and 56 genera.
