Redescription of Nemophora tancrei (Sauber) (Lepidoptera: Adelidae) from Central Asia and designation of a neotype

Lepidoptera China Kazakhstan Kyrgyzstan neotype synonymy

Abstract

Nemophora tancrei (Sauber, 1899), a fairy moth species closely related to the European N. associatella (Zeller, 1839), is reliably known only from a relatively small mountain area at the junction of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China. To clarify its taxonomic status, a neotype of Adela tancrei is designated, and a differential diagnosis and detailed morphological description are provided, together with notes on habitat preference and distribution. Nemophora tancrei is here recognized as a senior subjective synonym of Adela korbi Caradja, 1920, syn. nov., and of A. mutabilella Küppers, 1980, syn. nov.
