Revision of the tribe Helconini Förster, 1863 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Helconinae) from Japan, with descriptions of 11 new species

Abstract

The Japanese species of the tribe Helconini Förster, 1863 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Helconinae) are taxonomically reviewed. In total, 26 species in four genera are recognized from Japan. Eleven new species are described from Japan: Helcon parva sp. nov., H. pseudotricolor sp. nov., Wroughtonia acuticornuta sp. nov., W. albibasalis sp. nov., W. amplicornuta sp. nov., W. breviterebra sp. nov., W. chichibuensis sp. nov., W. ogasawarana sp. nov., W. serrata sp. nov. and W. tsushimensis sp. nov. Three species, Helcon nunciator (Fabricius, 1793), Ussurohelcon koshunensis (Watanabe, 1934) and Wroughtonia yaanensis Yan & Chen, 2017, are newly recognized from Japan and the misidentification of Helconidea dentipes Tobias, 1967 (= He. dentator sensu Watanabe 1972) is rectified. Onespecies, W. ogasawarana sp. nov., is the first representative of the subfamily Helconinae from the Oceanian biogeographic region. Keys to the Japanese genera and species of Helconini are provided.
