Abstract

A study of fourteen specimens of the extinct genus Hapsomela Poinar & Brown from Burmese amber revealed three morphospecies, of which two are described as new: Hapsomela minor sp. nov. and H. tibialis sp. nov. The holotype of H. burmitis Poinar & Brown, originally interpreted as a female, is most likely a male. The projections/spines of the pro- and metatibiae are recognized as male sexual characters. The apical parts of the aedeagi of H. burmitis and H. tibialis are illustrated. Six specimens lacking modifications on the legs are listed as unassociated females.
