Abstract
Zhang (1989) described the cicada species Oncotympana lapidescens from a fossilized head, thorax, hind legs and well preserved right forewing from the Shanwang fossil beds in China. Moulds (2018) accepted Zhang’s association of this species with O. melanoptera Distant, 1904 (now Hyalessa melanoptera (Distant, 1904)) and in so doing transferred O. lapidescens to the genus Hyalessa China, 1925.
