Hymenoptera Bethylidae Chrysidoidea flat wasp Miocene Scleroderminae

Abstract

Alongatepyris is a South American genus, known only from two species: A. platunissimus and A. ingens. It is a Scleroderminae genus by having the body extremely flattened and the forewing with the first cubital cell very reduced. The first extinct sclerodermine from Dominican amber and first extinct species of Alongatepyris, †A. pedrocai Colombo & Azevedo, sp. nov. is described and illustrated. This species is characterized by having the head elongate, dorsal pronotal area ecarinate and forewing with long 2r-rs&Rs vein. All previously known extant species were analyzed and compared and an updated key for Alongatepyris is also provided. Possible reasons of the absence of strongly flat sclerodermine genera in fossil record outside of the tropical regions are too discussed.
