BOOK REVIEW: LASIOHELEA OF SOUTHEAST ASIA

Lasiohelea of Southeast Asia By Yixin Yu & Willis W. Wirth. Military Medical Scientific Press, Beijing, China. 1997. 88pp. ISBN 7-80121-099-9 (pbk) [in English with Chinese abstract and key to species].

Few taxonomic monographs published in China are written in English and include taxa from outside China. This booklet is one of them. It is  a taxonomic monograph of midges belonging to the genus Lasiohelea (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae: Forcipomyiinae), based on material collected by Wirth and colleagues from various Southeast Asian countries. It describes 43 species of Lasiohelea from this region, including 27 new species and 8 new records. Prior to this monograph, only 8 species of Lasiohelea were known in Southeast Asia (Borkent & Wirth, 1997).
