Abstract

A new weevil genus Capelarinus Gültekin & Lyal gen. nov. in the tribe Lixini (Curculionidae: Lixinae; Lixini) and four new species Capelarinus korotyaevi Gültekin & Lyal sp. nov., Capelarinus klassi Gültekin & Lyal sp. nov., Capelarinus colonnellii Gültekin & Lyal sp. nov. and Capelarinus marshalli Gültekin & Lyal sp. nov., are described from the Eastern and Western Cape Provinces, South Africa. The lectotype of Larinus lineatus Gyllenhal, 1835 is designated and the species is designated as type species of Capelarinus as Capelarinus lineatus (Gyllenhal) comb. nov. A key to the species and images showing distinctive morphological characters are presented. The only known host plant association is Cullumia reticulata (L.) Greuter, M.V.Agab. & Wagenitz (Asteraceae) which is an endemic South African plant and on the country’s red list.
