Abstract

The third instar larva and pupa of Cotinis lebasi (Gory & Percheron, 1833) and Hoplopyga foeda (Schaum, 1848) from Colombia are described, and data about their natural history are presented. The importance of the leaf‐cutter ant Atta colombica Guérin‐Méneville, 1844 (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) waste, where the immature stages of C. lebasi develop, in the tropical forests of the Chocó Biogeographic region is discussed. A key for the identification of the third instar larvae of Gymnetini from the American continents is provided.
