Lispe Latreille (Diptera, Muscidae) from the Macaronesian Islands with a key to species and redescription of Lispe nana Macquart

Abstract

Lispe Latreille (Diptera) is a very interesting and speciose muscid genus, with about 180 known species, with predacious habits. The genus is found in all zoogeographical regions except in Antarctica. Ten species have been recorded from Macaronesia, among them, only two from the Madeira Archipelago, more specifically from Madeira Island, L. nana Macquart and L. tentaculata (De Geer). Recently, L. nana was collected in Porto Santo Island, which consists the first record of the genus in this Island. Besides the illustrated redescription, we also provide an identification key for the Macaronesian Lispe species. Finally, we provide a graph with the known geographical distribution of the species.
