New species and records of the genus Ataenius Harold, 1867 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Aphodiinae) from Colombia

Eupariini Magdalena Valley Neotropical Scarabs

Abstract

A new species of Ataenius Harold, 1867 is described from Colombia, Ataenius iavehache Clavijo-Bustos, Gama & Skelley sp. nov.. It belongs to the Ataenius nugator-species group, now composed of 20 species. Additionally, new Colombia country records are presented for Ataenius cribrithorax Bates, 1887, A. glabriventris Schmidt, 1911, A. koelleri Balthasar, 1963, A. petrovitzi Balthasar, 1960, A. purator Harold, 1868, and A. sculptilis Harold, 1868. This brings the total number of Ataenius species known from Colombia to 33.
