Abstract

The ladybird genus Coeliaria Mulsant, 1850 (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae: Coccinellinae: Chnoodini) includes five species distributed in South America. We describe and illustrate a new species, Coeliaria almeidae sp. nov., found in Casa Nova, Bahia, Brazil. It is the second found in the Northeast Region of Brazil and the first in the Caatinga. We provide an updated identification key for all species of Coeliaria and present new notes on morphology, host plants and prey records. We also provide new records of Coeliaria bernardinensis (Brèthes, 1925).
