A new species of Amphibolips (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Cynipini) from Mexico

Hymenoptera Oak gall wasp Quercus Lobatae Nearctic Neotropics

Abstract

A new species of Amphibolips from Mexico galling on Quercus calophylla Schltdl. & Cham. is described. The new species, Amphibolips chilito sp. nov., is morphologically closely related to A. zacatecaensis and A. nassa based on the forewing exhibiting a strongly infuscate radial cell. The gall morphology of the new species is unique and greatly differs from the galls of its allied species. The phylogenetic placement of the new species is discussed alongside with a summary of the phenology of the Amphibolips species.
