Abstract

A new species of the genus Chiron MacLeay, 1819, Chiron vignei Huchet sp. nov., is described from Tanzania and compared with morphologically similar species. This new taxon belongs to the cylindrus species group, defined by a quadridentate labrum and an aedeagus with long, apically acuminate parameres. A distribution map of Chiron vignei Huchet sp. nov. is provided, along with an identification key to Tanzanian species with a quadridentate labrum.
