Abstract

The type material of Arge was studied in three largest Russian collections of sawflies: the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St Peresburg), the Zoological Museum of the Moscow State University (Moscow) and the Institute of Systematics and Ecology of Animals (Novosibirsk). In summary, type material was found for 33 nominal taxa, for which current status, detailed redescription and illustrative tables including genital structures for both sexes (if present) are given. The neotype for Arge altaica Gussakovskij, 1935 and lectotypes for 15 species, Arge bucharica Gussakovskij, 1935, A. chrysoptera Gussakovskij, 1935, A. cingulata Jakowlew, 1891, A. cinnabarina Gussakovskij, 1935, A. corallina Gussakovskij, 1935, A. erythraea Gussakovskij, 1935, A. forficula Jakowlew, 1891, A. kozlovi Gussakovskij, 1935, A. labidura Gussakovskij, 1935, A. pallidinervis Gussakovskij, 1935, A. persica Gussakovskij, 1935, A. przhevalskii Gussakovskij, 1935, A. rufocincta Gussakovskij, 1935, A. turcomana Gussakovskij, 1935, and A. zarudnyi Gussakovskij, 1935, are here designated to ensure the continuing clarity, security and stability of uniform usage. Arge stroganovae Sundukov, 2007 (= A. altaica Stroganova, 1977) is a new synonym of A. dimidiata (Fallén, 1808) (syn. nov.). Arge zarudnyi Gussakovskij, 1935 is a new synonym of Arge bucharica Gussakovskij, 1935 (syn. nov.).
