Orthoptera elcanids Burmese amber middle Cretaceous taxonomy new taxa

Abstract

A new genus and two species have been discovered in the middle Cretaceous Burmese amber. Longipectus gen. nov. (represented by L. circulus sp. nov.) could be distinguished from all other elcanid genera by the smallest body size (2.95 mm in length), a protracted pronotum more than half the length of the body, metatarsomere II present with a small apical lobule, CuA+CuPaα only fused with CuPaβ+CuPb, 1A reduced as a short vein near the wing posterior margin. The other one, Panorpidium stenos sp. nov. is the third Burmese amber species in Panorpidium, which is similar to P. maculosum but can be distinguished by the following characters: Head with special convex and small, regular concave; CuPb base of tegmina has four branches, 1A near distal with two short branches; base of protibiae with a pair of small denticles. In addition, a key to all genera of Elcanidae from the Burmese amber is provided.
