Contributions to the knowledge of the subfamily Simognathinae (Acari: Halacaridae) of Türkiye

Acari Acaromantis Simognathus psammobiont Trombidiformes meiofauna

Abstract

A new species of the genus Acaromantis Trouessart & Neumann, 1893, A. nurhayatae sp. nov., is described and illustrated herein from the eastern Mediterranean Sea of Antalya, Türkiye. The new species is easily distinguished from all congeners by its fused AE and GA. None of the previously described Acaromantis species has fused AE and GA. It is twelfth known species in its genus and the third species of the genus known to occur in the Mediterranean Sea. In addition, Simognathus leiomerus Trouessart, 1894 is reported for the first time from Turkish coasts based on adults and nymphs, further extending its known distribution to the Antalya Bay in the Levantine Sea. Along with the new species and new record, the presence of deutonymph, larva and quiescent larva stage of Acaromantis monnioti Morselli, 1970 and both nymphal stages of Simognathus adriaticus Viets, 1940 are reported and illustrated for the first time. All species are inhabitants of fine sand grains.
