Abstract
The genus Glossogobius encompasses 42 recognized species, predominantly found in fresh- and estuarine waters of the tropical West Pacific, while the Indian Ocean region hosts nine species. This study presents the first detailed morphological and genetic documentation of Glossogobius laticeps (Gobiidae) in the western Indian Ocean region, based on specimens collected from the Gabrik River in the Makran basin of the Gulf of Oman, southern Iran. This marks the third recorded locality for this species in the Indian Ocean region, following two prior records from Bangladesh. It also signifies a new addition to the freshwater ichthyofauna of Iran. We provide a morphological assessment of genotyped voucher specimens, accompanied by comprehensive descriptive information.
