Abstract

Recent survey efforts on palms (Arecaceae) in Costa Rica have resulted in the discovery of many new species of cixiid planthoppers. A recent expedition resulted in the discovery of a new species, Bothriocera aurea sp. nov., from palms on the Osa peninsula. Herein, the novel taxon is described and supplemental molecular data for the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI), histone 3 (H3), 18S rRNA and D8–D10 expansion regions of 28S rRNA genes are presented.
