Abstract

Thrips of the suborder Tubulifera were collected across Saudi Arabia, with 18 species in nine genera being found. Eight species and six genera are recorded for the first time from this country and Haplothrips microcephalum Rasool sp. nov. is described as new to science. A key is provided to the genera and species of Saudi Arabia, together with a checklist to the Tubulifera species of Arabian Peninsula. The existence of Liothrips oleae in the thrips fauna of Saudi Arabia should be reconsidered, as there is no verified evidence supporting the presence of this species within the country.
