A new species of the genus Stereocephalus Lynch, 1884 (Staphylinidae: Paederinae) from the Ecuadorian Amazon

Abstract

In this paper, we describe a new species of the Neotropical endemic genus Stereocephalus Lynch Arribálzaga, 1884 (Staphylinidae: Paederinae: Lathrobiini) from Ecuador, S. ikiamensis sp. nov. Our work increases the number of known species to six and adds two new country records for the occurrence of the genus, Ecuador and Peru. Additionally, we report a new record for S. rinnanus Herman, 1979 for ​​the Santa Catarina state, Brazil, and a new genus record for the Itapúa Department, Paraguay. We also incorporate the newly described species into an updated identification key.
