A review of Podistra subgen. Hemipodistra Ganglbauer, 1922 (Coleoptera: Cantharidae), with description of a new species from the Caucasus

Abstract

Soldier beetles of Podistra subgen. Hemipodistra are reviewed. A new species, P. (H.) lakorum sp. nov., is described from central Dagestan. The subgenus is recorded from the Alps and the Carpathian mountains in the western part of its distribution range and from the northeastern Caucasus in the eastern part. Internal and external female genitalia of Podistra subgen. Hemipodistra species are described and illustrated for the first time. Brancucci’s (1980) concept of the valvifer in the female genitalia of Cantharidae is reviewed and corrected. A key to the species of Podistra subgen. Hemipodistra is provided, along with a map of their distribution in the Caucasus.
