Hemiptera Ochlerini stink bug taxonomy

Abstract

Neoadoxoplatys Kormilev, 1956 (Pentatomidae: Discocephalinae) is a Neotropical genus with four known species poorly represented in entomological collections. The genus is placed in the Janeirona Distant, 1911 clade of Ochlerini, and is easily distinguished by the femora armed distally with two rows of spines, and the labium with an intercalary segment between labiomeres I-II. In this study, we describe a new species of Neoadoxoplatys from Brazil, similar in size to Neoadoxoplatys longirostra Ruckes, 1958, and provide a differential diagnosis to distinguish the new species from the remaining four in the genus. We also present a key to the species of Neoadoxoplatys.
