Abstract

The eight species of the genus Mylassa Stål, 1867 recognized as valid, plus two considered synonyms, have been revised and critically discussed. For each species, the type series was located where available, and a single name-bearing type specimen was designated accordingly (lectotype, holotype, or neotype, as appropriate). Comprehensive redescriptions, illustrations, and an updated distribution range of all the treated species are provided. The following synonymies are proposed: Mylassa crassicollis (Blanchard, 1851) = Mylassa discariana Monrós, 1949 syn. nov.; Mylassa obliquata (Suffrian, 1863) = Mylassa chachallaoi Monrós, 1949 syn. nov.; Mylassa rubronotata (Blanchard, 1851) = Mylassa socia Stål, 1857 syn. nov.). Eight new species are described herein: Mylassa monrosi sp. nov. from Argentina and Chile, Mylassa fuliginosa sp. nov. from Chile, Mylassa flavolimbata sp. nov. from Chile, Mylassa daccordii sp. nov. from Chile, Mylassa postmediana sp. nov. from Chile, Mylassa longicornis sp. nov. from Chile, Mylassa ferruginea sp. nov. from Paraguay, Mylassa mirabilis sp. nov. from Chile. A determination key is provided to aid in species identification. As a result of this research, Mylassa is currently composed of a total of 13 species.
