Abstract

Phrynidius Lacordaire, 1869 is redescribed and morphological characters representing sexual dimorphism are described for the first time. Nine new species are described: Phrynidius tigranensis Noguera, Anderson & Santos-Silva, sp. nov., P. sanctabarbaraensis Noguera, Anderson & Santos-Silva, sp. nov., P. murallaensis Noguera, Anderson & Santos-Silva, sp. nov., P. hondureno Noguera, Anderson & Santos-Silva, sp. nov., P. palliapicalis Noguera, Anderson & Santos-Silva, sp. nov., and P. guisayotensis Noguera, Anderson & Santos-Silva, sp. nov., from Honduras; and P. stegosaurus Noguera, Anderson & Santos-Silva, sp. nov., P. zacapensis Noguera, Anderson & Santos-Silva, sp. nov., and P. schusteri Noguera, Anderson & Santos-Silva, sp. nov., from Guatemala. The male of Phrynidius jonesi Gutiérrez, Toledo & Noguera, 2020 is fully illustrated and a new country record is provided. An updated key to the now currently known 29 species of Phrynidius is provided.
