Re-classification of some American Cerambycidae (Insecta, Coleoptera): a critical review of bad taxonomic practices

Abstract

The following new synonymies are proposed: Poeciloxestia (Regularilinea) Özdikmen, 2025 = Poeciloxestia Lane, 1965; Megacyllene (Lineicollis) Özdikmen, 2025 = Megacyllene Casey, 1912; Beraba (Martinsiella) Özdikmen, 2025 = Beraba Martins, 1997; Eburella (Galileoella) Özdikmen, 2025 = Eburella Monné & Martins, 1973; Eburia (Westindiesica) Özdikmen, 2025 and Eburia (Martiniqueca) Özdikmen, 2025 = Eburia Lacordaire, 1830; Eburodacrys (Atrotuberculocollis) Özdikmen, 2025 and Eburodacrys (Oncoptera) = Eburodacrys White, 1853; Erosida (Plusformosa) Özdikmen, 2025 = Erosida Thomson, 1861; Proeme (Latipenna) Özdikmen, 2025 = Proeme Martins, 1978; Tilloclytus (Bipartitopennus) Özdikmen, 2025 = Tilloclytus Bates, 1885; Taeniotes (Suturalineopennis) Özdikmen, 2025 = Taeniotes Audinet-Serville, 1835; Oncideres (Multicinctipenna) Özdikmen, 2025, Oncideres (Psyllotoxus) Thomson, 1868, and Oncideres (Taricanus) Thomson, 1868 = Oncideres Lacordaire, 1830; Onocephala (Medioclarovitta) Özdikmen, 2025 = Onocephala Sturm, 1843; Stethoperma (Medioclarofascia) Özdikmen, 2025 = Stethoperma Lameere, 1884; Emphytoecia (Dimidiatipenna) Özdikmen, 2025 = Emphytoecia Fairmaire & Germain, 1859; Rhaphiptera (Sinespinopenna) Özdikmen, 2025 = Pteroplius (Rhaphiptera) Audinet-Serville, 1835; Mecas (Callusocollis) Özdikmen, 2025 = Mecas LeConte, 1852; and Phaea (Angustopenna) Özdikmen, 2025 = Phaea Newman, 1840. The synonymy proposed by Lazarev (2025) between Purpuricenus (Basiatropansexus) Özdikmen, 2025 and Purpuricenus Dejean, 1821 is corroborated.
