An illustrated and annotated catalogue of the type-specimens of tiger beetles (Coleoptera, Cicindelidae) from the collection of Viktor Motschulsky housed in the Zoological Museum of Moscow Lomonosov State University, Russia

Coleoptera holotype by monotypy lectotype new synonyms nomen nudum status restored

Abstract

An illustrated and annotated catalogue of the type-specimens of tiger beetles from the collection of Viktor Motschulsky housed in the Zoological Museum of Moscow Lomonosov State University, Russia is presented. Lectotypes of Collyris modesta Motschulsky, 1864 and Collyris conicollis Motschulsky, 1864 are designated. Collyris conicollis Motschulsky, 1864 is restored from the synonyms. The new synonyms are established: Neocollyris (s. str.) bonellii filiformes (Chaudoir, 1843) = Collyris modesta Motschulsky, 1864, syn. nov.; Collyris conicollis Motschulsky, 1864 = Neocollyris (s. str.) nepalensis Naviaux, 1994: 256, syn. nov.; Cicindela transversalis pseudoriparia Mandl, 1935 = Cicindela hispanica Motschulsky, 1844, syn. nov.; Cicindela georgiensis georgiensis Deuve, 2011 = Cicindela dumetorum Motschulsky, 1840, syn. nov.; Cicindela macrocnema Chaudoir, 1852 = Cicindela reducta Motschulsky, 1859, syn. nov. Сollyris clavicornis Motschulsky, 1856, Cicindela ziczac Sturm, 1843, Cicindela assimilis Sturm, 1843, Cicindela thomae Sturm, 1843 and Сicindela hebraea Putzeys, 1874 are considered as nomina nuda. The type specimens of Tricondyla ovicollis Motschulsky, 1864, Tricondyla nietneri Motschulsky, 1859, Collyris abbreviata Motschulsky, 1864, Collyris fuscicornis Motschulsky, 1864, Therates thoracica Motschulsky 1858, Cicindela palmata Motschulsky, 1844, Cicindela caucasica Motschulsky, 1844, Cicindela funebris Motschulsky, 1850, Cicindela anatolica Motschulsky, 1859 and Habroscelis obliquata Motschulsky, 1857 are absent from the collection of ZMUM. All type-specimens are illustrated and the measurements all of them are presented as well.
