Abstract

A study on Rhamphini from different states of India was conducted during which one new subgenus and five new species new were discovered, as well as a number of species new to the Indian fauna. A new subgenus, Orchomizo Zabaluev subgen. nov. (type species Orchestes combinatus Zabaluev sp. nov.), of the genus Orchestes Illiger, 1798 is described based on the structure of the metatibiae, prosternum and mesosternum. Five new species are described from India as follows: Morimotonomizo chilikaensis Zabaluev sp. nov. (Odisha), Indodinorrhopalus surya Zabaluev sp. nov. (Goa), I. yaksha Zabaluev sp. nov. (Goa), Orchestes (Orchomizo) combinatus Zabaluev sp. nov. (Odisha) and O. (Salius) asetosus Zabaluev sp. nov. (Goa). A new combination, Morimotonomizo freyi (Voss, 1958) comb. nov., is proposed. The following species are recorded for India for the first time: Rhamphus medvedevi Korotyaev, 1994, Morimotonomizo fasciatus Kojima, 1997, M. flacourtiae (Marshall, 1957), M. freyi (Voss, 1958) comb. nov., Indodinorrhopalus guttatus Morimoto & Miyakawa, 1996, Orchestes (s. str.) basirostris (Voss, 1953), and O. (Salius) parvidens (Voss, 1958). Images of the habitus, genitalia, and other morphological details are provided for most species for the first time.
